Review:
I saw this movie the other day and I really liked it. It was exactly what I expected (maybe slightly better). If you want to see a really well-thought-out film a lot of character development and an interesting subplots this is not the film for you. If you want to see a bunch of U.S. Marines beat the tar out of invading spacefreaks, then this is the film for you. As we meet the aliens once the center of the film is a non-stop thrill ride. Stuff explodes, aliens get splattered, people can burn laser. If you are not already suspect, this film is very violent. Although there is a lot of blood, it is clear that many deaths. Activities are unpredictable and zany. One minute everyone can walk anywhere from point A and B, then the next, they're Crouching burnt cars and houses as foreigners pour ungodly hellfire on them from above. The special effects were pretty good, except for a few bad animations here and there. They say that the film suffers when slowing down. The dialogue is poorly written and edited well, but not well. Aaron Eckhart, however, did an excellent job as a stone in front of the marine sergeant who keeps a cool head when under fire. Most of the story is fairly standard war movie / alien invasion stuff. You know, after a bunch of fighting everyone gets discouraged, and then the driver gives a motivational speech and inspirational music plays and everyone feels heroic. So dont expect a masterpiece of modern cinema, waiting for the alien guts and a lot of shooting, and I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
